Our Story

The Cairngorm Crate Company is a small, family run business founded among the beautiful forests, rushing rivers and heathery mountains of the Cairngorms National Park.

Growing up in a rural farmhouse with a father as an arborist, the smell of sawdust and sap was never far away. Whether it was fetching firewood, helping my dad at work, or fashioning a pair of rustic rugby posts, I was brought up in an environment where local wood kept us warm, paid the bills, and made growing up an adventure.

After two years playing rugby abroad, I graduated from Stirling University and worked in Scotland. After hearing my sister was heading to Canada, I decided to join her just in time for the pandemic. We spent time isolating up a coastal mountain on Vancouver Island, eeking out a living. The idea of Cairngorm Crate Company took root while spending time in British Columbia, and since returning home, while working as a tree surgeon, it has steadily grown into a small local business.

At its core, the crate company is built on simple principles — respect for materials, thoughtful design, and the idea that products should be made to last, not to be replaced. We keep a low carbon footprint by using locally sourced timber and a no-waste policy. Our crates are practical, robust and should last a lifetime.
